Looking Sun in the eyes
By Pramod Kumar
It is difficult for a person to look at the burning Sun at noontime for even a few seconds, but Suryamahayogi Amaranand Ram Ram is fond of talking to the Sun for hours. Not just one or two minutes, he can constantly gaze at the Sun from morning to evening without blinking his eyelids. Talking to Organiser in New Delhi, he, while citing spiritual texts, claims that after Lord Hanuman, he is the only one to be gifted with this divine power from the Sun-god for he had chanted 40 lakh Ram mantras for over six months in the Himalayan valley. A B.Tech. engineer by profession, Amaranand was Director in Labour Department of Central Government till January 14, 1999. Now he has become a sannyasi.
Apart from predictions, Swami Amaranand claims to solve “all kinds of problems” and cure diseases of the people. He does not charge any fee for doing it. So far, he claims, more than 10,000 people from Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Punjab, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir have availed of his services. “When an individual comes to me for a solution to his problems, if my eyes, during the suryatratak samadhi are shut, it indicates that the visitor is a perpetual sinner and if the eyes remain open, it means he/she is free from sin. When one thinks/asks any question about his or her problems, immediately it reflects in my eyes. If the eyes close, the answer is negative; if they remain open, the answer is positive. I do not know what question a person will ask or what Lord Vishnu (Sun) would reply to him,” he said, adding that he had been engaged in this practice for the last six years.
Swami Amaranand, a disciple of Karapatri Maharaj of Kashi who passed away in 1982, solves problems of the people during the rising Sun or at mid-noon (11a.m. to 12 p.m.). In this period, he says, predictions are correct. “May-June and October-November are ideal months to get the desired results. This technology can be used to cure various diseases, as the Sun’s rays have the curing power, which enter through my body. If one sees the Sun’s reflection in a mirror, he gets the benefit of only one element, as the mirror constitutes only one element, i.e. prithvi tatva. Similarly, if the Sun is seen in the pond-water or while offering surya arghya, this also provides the benefit of only one element, i.e. jal tatva. It may also cause an imbalance in one element. This is the reason Tulsidas suffered from jalodar diseases. Prithvi tatva brings heaviness in the body leading to heart attack. Since the human body is constituted of five elements, watching the Sun through human eyes in suryatratak samadhi grants five balanced elements that cure all kinds of diseases and the upper hurdles,” he added.
The knowledge of Sun worship
He says that Rishi Durvasa, Kunti and Swami Vishuddhanand too knew the Surya mantra, but they belonged to a path different to that of Lord Hanuman. “I belong to the path that Lord Hanuman followed, i.e. constant gazing at the Sun without blinking my eyelids,” he said, adding that whosoever after Lord Hanuman tried to do so, lost his eyes. “After Lord Hanuman, Jatau and Sampati tried to acquire this knowledge but failed. Recently, a tantrik from Assam, Dimbeshwar Basumtari tried it, but lost his eyes. His photograph of fused eyes was taken by the Agency France Press and was published in different newspapers on October 5, 2001.”
He said this knowledge was imparted to the Sun by Lord Krishna about 2,160,000,000 years ago. The Sun granted it to Lord Hanuman who constantly gazed at the Sun without blinking his eyelids for about 24 years. This knowledge is called suryatratak, while normal tratak, as per Patanjali’s Yogasutra, is the top category yoga (out of khatkaram-six different yogas) to purify human body.
Swami Amaranand originally hails from Malajali village in Etawa district of Uttar Pradesh. He was very keen to look at the Sun since his childhood. He visited various religious leaders and worshipped the Sun in different meditations, but did not derive any satisfaction. It was in 1980 that Swami Karapatri Maharaj granted him the Ram mantra. Later he went to Pindari Glacier in the Himalayan valley with Pilot Baba and chanted the Ram mantra 16 hours daily. In six months, he chanted the mantra 40 lakh times. He claims that at that time an akashvani sounded in his ears asking him what boon he wanted. So he asked for the Sun.
If the eyes close, the answer is negative; if they remain open, the answer is positive. I do not know what question a person will ask or what Lord Vishnu (Sun) would reply to him,” he said, adding that he had been engaged in this practice for the last six years.
He says, “The Sun is the king of all the nine planets. If one worships the Sun, he can get the desired rajayoga, navagraha-shanti, etc. Kunti, Rishi Durvasa, etc. used to do it with the help of the mantra. But I do it with the blessings of the Sun and the original Gita tatva (knowledge) which Lord Krishna had given to the Sun.”
